Member Groups

I. UVA Students and Non-Service Groups

Through our contact with the community and local Charlottesville community service agencies, the VSC compiles information on all of the local community service opportunities. These can be accessed by anyone through our website where they can discover how to get more involved in service. The VSC also sends out a bi-weekly e-mail compilation of upcoming service opportunities. Anyone is able to add themselves to this list simply by visiting the following link:

It is our hope that the general student body, as well as non-service groups who wish to do some service sporadically, will avail themselves of these services.

II. UVA Community Service Groups

We serve UVA's community service groups by providing a forum for publicity, networking and information sharing between groups. By attending our meetings and engaging in open discussion about the service community and how we can better join forces to serve the needs of the community, co-sponsorships, and new University-wide service initiatives, groups will find themselves better prepared to accomplish their own goals.

III. Charlottesville Community and Community Agencies

To assist in communication between the University and the community, the VSC hopes to serve as the link between these two broad arenas. When a community agency needs volunteers, they fill out a Volunteer Request Form and we notify any groups who may have requested to volunteer in that type of project, and include it in our bi-weekly service update e-mail. While there are no guarantees that we will successfully find a match, we do all we can to find one.

Beyond serving these three distinct bodies, since our founding, the VSC has implemented many other programs to serve the entire community. We have instituted a community service coordinator in each first-year house who serves on house council and is responsible for organizing service activities for his or her dormmates. We have also begun granting community service awards at the end of each year, to recognize groups who make great achievements in their service niche.
